Artist Brenda Oelbaum

Background
Brenda Oelbaum is a Fat, Feminist, Activist Artist who desires to stand up against the government's " War on Obesity." This desire led to The Venus of Willendorf Project. Through diet book paper mache, activist events, and massive diet book mazes, Oelbaum's Venus of Willendorf Project is a multi-decade project that allows many individuals to engage in conversations about body image, media pressures, and eating disorders.

Project
Over two years with Oelbaum as a client lead to a wide range of small individual projects as well as larger, lengthy projects. What started out as an artist's studio assistant position transformed into a repeat client that requested graphic design, project management, and consultating for multiple facets of the Venus of Willendorf Project. Depicted here are some of the physical results of those projects.

These precious dolls are soft cover diet book covers cut and folded to create Venus Dolls.
Oelbaum struggled to bring this idea to reality until I created a sizable version of the pattern and worked out the details of the best folding steps to make them.
The size of the doll depends on the size of the original cover. Each standard book cover size has a unique pattern that allows for maximized cover usage.
